Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des tubes de plastique, l\u2019\u00e9chantillonneur de type Benthos permet d\u2019extraire des carottes intactes mesurant jusqu\u2019\u00e0 deux m\u00e8tres de long. L\u2019\u00e9chantillonneur par grappillage est constitu\u00e9 d\u2019une paire de m\u00e2choires d\u2019acier qui se referment en touchant le fond, ce qui lui permet de recueillir des s\u00e9diments directement au fond de l\u2019eau. Les \u00e9chantillons sont scell\u00e9s dans des contenants \u00e9tanches et d\u00fbment identifi\u00e9s en vue de leur examen.<\/p>\n<p>L\u2019\u00e9chantillonnage d\u2019eau se fait pratiquement de la m\u00eame mani\u00e8re que l\u2019\u00e9chantillonnage de s\u00e9diments, mais un dispositif sp\u00e9cial permet de recueillir de l\u2019eau plut\u00f4t que des \u00e9chantillons de s\u00e9diments. Les \u00e9chantillons, plac\u00e9s dans des contenants \u00e9tanches et \u00e9tiquet\u00e9s, sont pr\u00eats \u00e0 \u00eatre envoy\u00e9s au laboratoire. Un appareil qui mesure la conductivit\u00e9, la temp\u00e9rature et la salinit\u00e9 sert \u00e0 mesurer, au besoin et in situ, ces param\u00e8tres dans un plan d\u2019eau donn\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>La prise d\u2019images sous-marines (vid\u00e9os ou clich\u00e9s) se fait gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des cam\u00e9ras et des syst\u00e8mes d\u2019\u00e9clairage adapt\u00e9s \u00e0 la profondeur de l\u2019emplacement et des conditions environnantes de l\u2019eau.
